A MABLETHORPE film team are celebrating after reaching the final stage of a national competition.
The British Coast Guide started the contest earlier this year inviting entries from coastal towns and villages across the country.
And Mablethorpe’s Visions Foundation team’s entry ‘Postcard from Mablethorpe’ has beaten off stiff competition to reach the final shortlist of five.
The Visions team is made up of keen local cinema-goers and film makers, who have become well known for their videos on Mablethorpe’s intriguing past and present.
The team began work when the Mablethorpe Town Centre Partnership requested for them to produce something to promote the resort. The film was then put together using high definition footage from the past two years.
It was inspired though by former Visions member George Minkley who died in August this year and the final version of the film is dedicated to his memory.
Terry Stow from Visions said: “We are thrilled to be in the last five of the competition. Even to come fifth out of over 170 entries is a big achievement for us.
“We are not expecting too much as we are up against some near professionals but we feel we have met the criteria better than they have so hopefully the judges will look favourably upon us. Still, we wait and see.”
Also featured in the final five are entries from Whitby and Scarborough, Orkney, Portland and Moray.
The video is featured at http://www.britishcoastguide.com/film_vote.php where readers have until October 31 to vote to give the Visions team a chance to earn national acclaim and £1,000 worth of state-of-the-art video equipment.
The team now wait anxiously for the results. Don’t miss the Leader to find out how they do.
