Bassetlaw: Fire and beauty in new exhibition at museum
Instead of oils or watercolours, artist Elaine Thompson uses fire.
Elaine produces works on wooden panels, using a technique called pyrography which uses a super-heated wire to burn designs into the wood.

Hide AdElaine said: “I spend a lot of time selecting timber panels for my work.”
The grain of the wood suggests the design, which I literally, bring out of the woods. “
“I don’t want to add any additional colour because I think it will detract from the beauty of the grain.”
Using this painstaking method and taking inspiration from each piece of wood means that no two works are the same.
