Stacey Whitworth set off from Coniston on August 3 and arrived in Louth Market Place on August 8, where he was welcomed by friends, family, 1228 Louth Squadron Air Training Corps, Louth Independent Traders – and a well deserved pint at the Masons Arms!

This week, Stacey told the Leader: “It was quite a tough week, with rain on the first few days followed by a couple of very hot days, the wet weather making footpaths across the Dales quite difficult.

“On the Thursday I was joined at Boston Spa by Darren Micklewright, a friend of mine who walked with me through to Goole where we were met by Chris Butler from Blind Veterans UK, who had made a 400 mile round trip to greet us at the end of the day.

“There have been some lovely and quite moving comments on the donation page and social media.

“These, to me, were the best thing that I will take from the week, at points leaving me quite emotional as I made my way back to Louth.

“I did try and do video updates on Facebook each day, people also made lovely comments on these, helping to keep my morale up on each day, mostly walking for 16 hours.

“The total raised to date is £2,761 (over £3,000 with Gift Aid). I thought it may be around £600.

“I can’t thank people enough for all their support, it would not have been possible without them.”

All the funds raised will be divided between the charities Blind Veterans UK, Guide Dogs UK, Alzheimer’s Society, MIND, and Papyrus.
